• 1904: Gottfried Schieder, a farmer from Tisens in Castelrotto, purchased the “Schgaguler Schwaige” on the Alpe di Siusi. With his family and cattle he came to the Alpe di Siusi where he farmed the land and offered travellers coming from Ortisei an accommodation for the night. The first origin of our hotel was planted here, one could say.
• 1910-11: A mountain hut was built on the Alpe di Siusi to accommodate the growing number of hikers. 
• 1923: Gottfried’s second son, also named Gottfried, took over the farm. No longer residing in Castelrotto, he became a true pioneer, being one of the first permanent inhabitants of the Alpe di Siusi. 
• 1935-1936: The funicular railway from Ortisei to the Alpe di Siusi was built. Inevitably, more hikers started coming to the village. 
• 1951: Gottfried’s daughter Martha Schieder and her husband Ludwig Demetz took over the business. 
• 1956: As skiing was becoming more and more fashionable, Martha and Ludwig built the “Ludy” ski lift. 
• 1958: The visitor accommodation burned to the ground, so the family decided to build the “Hotel Sonne”. All building materials were transported using the funicular railway from Ortisei. 
• 1959: The hotel opened its doors. Guests arrived to the Alpe di Siusi with the funicular railway and their luggage was transported by horse and carriage. 
• 1975: The hotel was fully renovated. A shower, toilet and phone line was installed in each room, and a lift was built to carry guests to the different floors. 
• 1983: Martha’s daughter Edeltraud Demetz and her husband Gerhard Burgauner inherited the hotel. Soon after, the hotel became more accessible with the construction of the road linking Ritsch with the hotel. In the years that followed, the hotel Sonne developed step-by-step into a 4-star-hotel, which up to today continues to be a place for relaxing holidays on the Alpe di Siusi.
• 2011: In occasion of the hotel’s 100th anniversary a large remodelling was undertaken; suites and a sauna area were added.
