Followed by cheerful musical entertainment, the traditional celebration of Polenta and Mortadella is one of the events that must take place in Riva del Garda, a pleasant village in the province of Trento that faces the homonymous lake.
It's been now for several decades that this free distribution of a typical product of the territorytakes place, a party among the oldest in the Trentino. Thanks to ancient documents, it was possible to date this tradition back to 1708, when Gaetano Bertoldi, the curate, thanks to the income of which he benefited, decided to distribute wheat bread, wine and flour cooked in the church of Santa Maria del Perdonoduring the Annunciata. Other documents, however, would date the origin of this traditional festival back even to 1463.
